Open Farm Days August 16 & 17 2025

Thompson Farm is a family farm, focusing on producing premium quality freezer beef.

We raise Speckle Park cattle, a breed developed in Canada, which is known for its efficiency of production, as well as producing beef with amazing marbling, taste, and tenderness.

Our vision is to create quality, locally raised beef, while engaging in responsible land management practices and maintaining the well-being of our animals. With a mind to our footprint, we have several ongoing conservation projects with more planned.

On Saturday August 16, we are open for casual tours all day long, with local vendors on site. We are open from 9:30 to 4:30.

Children's activities are offered along with opportunities to meet some of our livestock, including cattle, horses, chickens, dogs and cats. We hope to have a food truck on site with meals available to purchase with the farm-raised beef we are proud to produce. We invite you to have your lunch in our garden, with tables set up for your convenience.

What to Expect:
• Hop on a wagon tour through our fields and natural vegetation strips as we travel to visit our Speckle Park cattle on pasture. These tours will be offered at regular intervals throughout the day.
• A few local vendors will be on site. Freezer beef will be available to purchase, as well as a small market table with seasonal vegetables and eggs.- Don't forget your cooler!
• Kids' craft table and games.
• Virtual tour of our land in the Battle River Valley, which has been in our family for nearly 100 years. It has been identified as an Environmentally significant area and a conservation priority.
• Remote watering system demonstration aimed at promoting water conservation and protecting riparian health with a fun prize dunk thrown in!

On Sunday August 17, we are hosting our first Farm to Table Dinner featuring our own farm-raised prime rib! With locally sourced vegetables, dessert and beverages, along with an intimate performance by local musicians, Myra Marshall and Tom Lichak, it has the makings of an unforgettable evening. Tickets are available at Thompson Farm To Table Dinner with option for payment with credit card. General tickets are $130 each, with pricing discount breaks on 2 and 4+ groupings, with additional drink tickets available for purchase. Pricing for children 10 and under is also available.

Visit our farm, where the tradition of farming is now in its 4th and 5th generations, with roots in the past and a mind to innovation for the future. Homesteaded in 1902, our values are based on sustainable and responsible management. We acknowledge that we are on Treaty 6 territory and work to live with respect for the people, traditions and ecological integrity that exists and existed before us.

Built in 1918, our barn has surpassed 100 years, and is still integral to our operation. Though so much has changed in that time, it serves as a testament to perseverance. We are always looking for ways to learn and improve to keep the land we are responsible for healthy for another century. We look forward to sharing our farming insight, traditions and experience with you!
